EVENTS AT SLU LIBRARY CELEBRATE NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Sims Memorial Library will join in
the celebration of National Library Week, April 13-19, with a variety of events for library
patrons on campus and in the community.
The university library has chosen "Get Connected @ the Library" as its adaptation of the
national theme, "Kids Connect @ the Library." Events include music performances, a poetry
reading, library tours, and electronic mail and internet courses. All events are open to the public.
Overdue fines will be forgiven on all library books returned during National Library
Week. Southeastern students, faculty, staff, and local library patrons may register for daily prize
drawings at the lobby information desk in the library lobby.
Activities scheduled for the library lobby include a presentation by Upgrade Tangipahoa
Literacy and noon on Monday, April 14 and musical performances by the SLU Student Wind
Quintet at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, and the SLU Classical Guitar Ensemble at 2 p.m.,
Wednesday, April 16. Also on Wednesday, English professor Jack Bedell will present a poetry
reading at noon. Library tours will be given at 11 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
In room 252, the basics of electronic mail will be taught at 10 a.m. on April 15 and an
Internet basics class is scheduled for 10 a.m., on April 17.
"Cajun Music and Zydeco Photographs," and exibit by internationally recognized
Louisiana photographer Philip Gould, will also be on display in the library lobby.
