SLU HOSTS LOUISIANA COLLEGE THEATRE FESTIVAL
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Department of Communication and
Theatre will host the 26th annual Louisiana College Theatre Festival, Nov. 18-22.
Eleven Louisiana universities will bring more than 300 students and faculty members to
the Hammond campus to participate in a week of extensive theatre productions, workshops and
lectures. The schools' productions, ranging from Louisiana State University's "Who's Afraid of
Virginia Woolf" to original plays by the University of New Orleans and Dillard University, will be
open to the public and will be performed throughout the day in SLU's Vonnie Borden Theatre.
Tickets for the productions are $2 general admission and $1 for Southeastern students.
Tickets may be purchased in advance at the SLU Theatre box office in the lobby of D Vickers
Hall from 5-8 p.m., Nov. 17-18, and 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Nov. 19-22.
The Louisiana College Theatre Festival is part of the Kennedy Center/American College
Theatre Festival, a national organization designed to promote excellence in university theatre
programs. The universities' entry will be evaluated by a form of professional adjudicators from
across the country and one production will be nominated to compete in the Region VI College
Theatre Festival to be held at Texas Women's College in February. Individual actors and designers
will also be given special recognition.
Southeastern will open the festival with Tennessee Williams' classic "Cat on a Hot Tin
Roof," which played to sell-out crowds during the university's recent Fanfare arts festival.
Directed by Southeastern theatre professor Kay Files, with set and lighting design for Steve
Schepker, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" will be performed at 8 p.m. Nov. 17 and 18.
