U.S. SENATOR MARY LANDRIEU TO PRESENT SLU'S MORRISON LECTURE
     HAMMOND -- United States Senator Mary Landrieu will present Southeastern
Louisiana University's  James H. Morrison Lecture on Politics and Government at the
university's Pottle Music Building Auditorium April 17.
     The annual lecture, sponsored by Southeastern's Center for Regional Studies and College
of Arts and Sciences, honors James H. "Jimmy" Morrison, the Hammond native who represented
Louisiana's Sixth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1943-1967.
Guest speakers, who have included U.S. Sen. John Breaux, state Sen. John Hainkel and state
Rep. Henry "Tank" Powell, explore critical and topical events pertaining to public policy. 
     Landrieu's lecture, which is free to the public, will begin at 9 a.m.
     Elected to to the U.S. Congress in 1996, Landrieu is the first woman to represent
Louisiana in the United States Senate. A moderate Democrat, Landrieu previously served two
terms in the Louisiana House of Representatives and two terms as Louisiana State Treasurer.
     An advocate of educational reform, the Senator serves on the Senate committee on
Agriculture, Nutrition and Foresty; Energy and Natural Resources; and Small Business.
     The Center for Regional Studies preserves and promotes the history and the cultures of
the Florida Parishes, southeastern Louisiana and southwestern Mississippi through scholarly
research, lectures and publishing.
