SLU'S UNIVERSITY POLICE SPONSOR KID CARE PROGRAM HEAD
HAMMOND, LA -- Southeastern Louisiana University's campus police and the SLU
Lab School have instituted the KID CARE program at the Lab School. The program gives
parents an up-to-date identification file on their child in case of an emergency.
"Many people don't have current photos of their children or don't have all of their medical
information in one place," said SLU's community policing officer Harvey Darnell. "In an
emergency situation, you're not always thinking clearly. With this program you have all the
information in one place."
Sgt. Micha Watts and Officer Pat Gipson of the University Police initiated the project,
and the cameras and film were purchased through Polaroid at a reduced price.
The parents receive a booklet with contact numbers, doctors names and numbers, the
child's identifying characteristics and marks, allergies and medications. The booklet also contains
places for new photographs are the child grows and changes.
Darnell says the service will be offered to Lab School students each year.
