SLU GUITARIST PRESENTS FACULTY RECITAL
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University guitarist Patrick Kerber, a member of the
music department faculty, will present a recital April 27 at Southeastern's Pottle Music Building
Auditorium.
Kerber's program, will include his own compositions as well as music by Venezuelan
composer Antonio Lauro and Spanish composer Celedonio Romero. The 7:30 p.m. recital is part
of
the Southeastern music department's spring concert series, Encore! and is free to the public.
Kerber has been performing as a solo recitalist on stage, radio and television for more than
20 years. He has appeared with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Louisiana Sonfonietta and
the
New Orleans Symphony. He also is sought after as a recital accompanist and his students have
won
numerous competition prizes.
Kerber's compositions have been heard on National Public Radio and at the Guitar
Foundation of America's annual convention. His composition, "Bagatelle" for guitar solo was
chosen from among more than 100 international entries to appear in the Guitar Foundation of
America's 1994 "Set Piece Composition Anthology."
Kerber was also producer of the weekly radio program, "The Classical Guitar," for NPR
affiliate WWNO 90FM in New Orleans from 1987-1992. He has two recordings for the Kubla
Music
label and is planning a recording of his own compositions.
He joined the Southeastern faculty after being commissioned to compose and perform
incidental music for Southeastern Theatre's production of Janet Martin's play, "Talking With."
He
also has taught at the University of New Orleans, Xavier University and the New Orleans Center
for
the Creative Arts. A graduate of Loyola University and UNO, he also studied for two years with
guitarist Pepe Romero in San Diego, Calif.
