CHAMBER MUSIC CONCERT AT SLU MARCH 1
HAMMOND -- Clarinetist Frankie J. Kelly of the Southeastern Louisiana University
music and dramatic arts faculty will present a recital of chamber music at 7:30 p.m. March 1 in
the university's Pottle Music Building Auditorium.
The concert is part of the Music and Dramatic Arts Department's annual spring "Encore!"
series. Admission is free.
Kelly will be joined by guest violinist Dorothy Martirano; Southeastern colleagues Brian
Depoy, trumpet; Henry Jones, piano; Karen Jung, cello; Lee Beach, percussion, and selected
students. The program will include works by Martirano, Mendelssohn, Surinac, and Bartok.
Martirano, concertmaster of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony and new music specialist,
will present a work for violin and tape entitled "Sampler."
"Written by the late Salvatore Martirano, this piece exudes innovativeness and
virtuosity," Kelly said. "Its energy can be traced to jazz influences and Martirano's early years as
a jazz pianist."
"The concert promises to be an adventure in musical style," Kelly said.
