SOUTHEASTERN PIANIST, HENRY JONES, PRESENTS RECITAL APRIL 26
HAMMOND -- Pianist Henry Jones, a member of the music faculty at Southeastern
Louisiana University, will present a recital on Friday, April 26, as part of the Department of
Music and Dramatic Arts' spring concert series, Encore!
Jones will perform works by Jean-Philippe Rameau and Claude Debussy as well as
Georges Auric's "Sonata in F Major."
After graduating from Yale University in 1978, Jones spent ten years in New York City
as a free-lance vocal coach and accompanist. During that decade, his credits included choral
performances at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and vocal recitals at Lincoln Center. He also
was musical director of a gymnastic exhibition at Madison Square Garden, and Broadway and
Off-Broadway shows, including "Evita," "Jerome Robbins' Broadway," and "The Fantasticks."
Jones received his doctoral degree in piano in 1994 from Louisiana State University and
taught at Minot State University in North Dakota and Missouri Southern State College in Joplin
before joining Southeastern's faculty. At Southeastern he teaches piano, class piano, piano
literature, piano ensemble, and music appreciation, and performs with the Southeastern Jazz
Lions and Southeastern Faculty Jazz Combo.
Jones was a winner of the LSU Symphony Concerto Competition, and was nominated
several times for best musical director by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets.
