HIGH SCHOOL VISITORS EXPECTED FOR JOB SHADOWING DAY
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University will welcome approximately 80 area
high school students to campus Friday, Feb. 2 for the university's participation in "National
Groundhog Job Shadowing Day."
The students will get a "close-up and real-life" view of the world of work by being paired
with members of the Southeastern family -- from President Sally Clausen to offices throughout
campus.
Southeastern has participated in Job Shadowing Day since the program was launched by
BellSouth in 1998. Widely praised, Job Shadowing Day has expanded to become a national
initiative.
Southeastern's participation is being coordinated by Assistant Dean for Student
Development Jim McHodgkins and Admissions Counselor Libby Bonin. They said students will
"shadow" their Southeastern partners from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., then gather for lunch at Twelve
Oaks, where they will share some of their experiences and receive certificates and door prizes.
"Job Shadowing Day is a great experience for the students, since it gives them a chance to
see visit workplaces and gather information on careers and fields of study they're interested in,"
McHodgkins said. "But our employees at Southeastern have enjoyed the experience, too. The
visiting students share with us as much as we share with them. We're looking forward to hosting
our largest group yet."
