FOOTBALL GREAT IRVING FRYAR TO SPEAK AT SOUTHEASTERN JAN.
21
HAMMOND -- Former National Football
League great Irving Fryar will be the guest speaker at a Southeastern Louisiana
University event sponsored by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
The free event is scheduled for
7 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, in the War Memorial Student Union Theatre.
Fryar, a five-time Pro Bowl selection
who had a stellar career as a speedy, sure-handed receiver with the New
England Patriots and other pro teams, will share the podium with New Orleans
Saints chaplain Doug Greengard and the Southeastern Gospel Choir, said
Southeastern Head Basketball Coach Billy Kennedy.
Co-sponsors for the evening,
which will also feature a video of Fryar’s career highlights, are
Ross Downing Chevrolet and Durham Autoplex.
Fryer is remembered as one of
the best receivers to play in the NFL. After 17 seasons, he retired after
the 2000 season as the fifth-leading receiver in league history. Fryar,
a former University of Nebraska All-American, was selected by the Patriots
as the first pick in the 1984 NFL draft. After nine seasons with the team,
he continued his career with Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington, reaching
career totals of 851 catches for 12,785 yards. His best season was 1986,
when he had 86 receptions for a career high 1,316 yards.

the event, contact Kennedy at 985-549-3744. |
