IDB PRESIDENT TO ADDRESS SLU COMMENCEMENT, RECEIVE HONORARY
DEGREE
     
     NEW ORLEANS   Inter-American Development Bank President Enrique Iglesias will
receive an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree and serve as commencement speaker at the
spring graduation ceremonies in May at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond,
announced Southeastern President Sally Clausen on Thursday (March 23).
      Clausen made the announcement at a reception held for Iglesias at the New Orleans law
firm of Jones Walker, where Iglesias was honored and received the City of New Orleans
International Order of Merit.
     The honorary degree will recognize Iglesias' contributions to the social and economic
development of the hemisphere, Clausen said. "Southeastern is in the process of opening a path
to the future by building these kinds of alliances," she added.  "We are seeking to introduce our
students to a global vision that will enable them to meet the challenges of hemispheric and world
transformation."
     She noted that Southeastern will serve as the host campus for the IDB Youth Summit on
Saturday. More than 60 young people associated with the IDB will exchange experiences and
discuss their work with Southeastern students during the day-long event.
