SBDC SPONSORS HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT SEMINAR SERIES
     HAMMOND -- Managing employees will be the focus of a five-part series of seminars
offered by the Southeastern Louisiana University Small Business Development Center once a
month from March through July.
     The seminars, which will each deal with a different aspect of human resources
management, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the SLU University Center on the third
Thursday of each month.
     The series begins on March 20 with "Finding and Hiring the Right People."
     "After surveying the needs of hundreds of small business owners throughout the Florida
Parishes," said SBDC Training Coordinator Dedra Fourmaux, "it became obvious that human
resource issues were, by far, the top priority and consequently the most requested training topic.
'Finding and Hiring the Right People' was the logical place to begin our series. This first seminar
will focus on writing and analyzing job descriptions, using various methods of finding good
applicants, screening applicants and, finally, effective and legal interviewing techniques."
     The cost to attend each seminar is $30, $25 for each additional person from the same
company. For those interested in attending the whole series, the cost is $125. Seating is limited
and on a first come-first serve basis. Preregistration is required. Each seminar will include
extensive handout materials and refreshments.
     Additional seminar topics are Workplace Regulations, Getting the Most from Your
Employees, Compensating Your Employees, and Employee Development and Training. Those
taking all five classes will earn a Certificate in Small Business Human Resource Management.
