RETIRED USAF COLONEL AND FORMER P.O.W. TO SPEAK AT SOUTHEASTERN
HAMMOND -- Retired United States Air Force colonel. Edward L. Hubbard, an
accomplished artist and respected motivational speaker who has written about his experiences as
a Vietnam War prisoner in "Escape from the Box," will give a special lecture at 7 p.m., April 18
in the University Center at Southeastern Louisiana University.
The lecture, sponsored by Edward Jones Investment Firm and Southeastern Veterans
Upward Bound, is free and open to the public.
With five college degrees and over 60 commendations and service medals from his 28
year military career, Hubbard conveys the message that the power of human potential is
boundless. He said the boundaries of his own potential were tested when Hubbard spent six and a
half years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam.
"Without a focus and a game plan to improve myself a little more each day;" Hubbard
said, "I would never have survived in a North Vietnamese prison, much less life after prison."
The lessons of survival he learned in captivity are the foundation on which he has built his
philosophy for living., he said.
Hubbard's lecture is part of an ongoing community service program sponsored by
Edward Jones investment firm. For more information about the lecture, Edward Jones
representative Matthew Cotton, (504) 542-2525 or Kim Barker of SLU Veterans Upward Bound
at (504)549-3386.
