LOCAL STUDENTS WIN HOUSE OF BLUES-FANFARE ART COMPETITION   
     HAMMOND -- Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University's annual fall arts festival, has
joined with the House of Blues Foundation and its Blues Schoolhouse program to sponsor an art
competition for local school children. 
     House of Blues Foundation representatives recently gathered at Hammond Square Mall to
judge the more than 70 contest entries from nine area schools, which will be on display through
October at the mall's House of Blues Foundation gallery. The House of Blues Foundation is
treating the young artists to a folk art tour and musical program on the history of jazz at the
House of Blues in New Orleans on Oct. 10 and 12, said Fanfare Director Donna Gay Anderson.
     The House of Blues Foundation gallery is located on Hammond Square Mall's second
level in the Dillard's wing. Gallery hours are 4-8 p.m., Thursday and Friday; noon to 8 p.m.,
Saturday, and 1-6 p.m., Sunday. Groups may also view the artwork by appointment by calling
Debbie Gauley, 504-542-5099.
     House of Blues Foundation art competition winners are:
     First place: Gabrielle Blades, Holy Ghost, fourth grade; Emily Bellavia, Mater Dolorosa,
fifth grade; Colt Johnson and Maryanne Vicari, Champ Cooper, sixth grade; Asima Naeem,
Hammond High, ninth grade; Morgan Sibley, Hammond High, 10th grade; Michelle Landry,
Hammond High,  11th grade; Peter Derbins and William Huck, St. Thomas Aquinas, 12th grade.
     Second place: Tyler Seilhan, Champ Cooper, fifth grade; Catherine Mason, Mater
Dolorosa, and Jenice Jones, Champ Cooper, sixth grade; Ronald Putman, Kentwood High, 10th
grade; Chris Sampey, Hammond, High, 11th grade; Alex Kroll, St. Thomas Aquinas, 12th grade.
     Third place: Melissa Landry, SLU Lab School, fifth grade; Cory Harris, Champ Cooper,
sixth grade; Marces Brim, Kentwood High and Uma Naeem, Hammond High, 10th grade; Sandi
Warner, Sumner High School, 11th grade; Stephanie Branum, Sumner High School, 12th grade.
