| LOCAL STUDENTS WIN INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF BLUES-FANFARE
ART COMPETITION
HAMMOND -- Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University’s annual fall arts festival, has joined with the House of Blues Foundation and its Blues Schoolhouse program to sponsor an art competition for local school children. International House of Blues Foundation representatives recently gathered at Hammond Square Mall to judge the more than 30 contest entries from six area schools, which will be on display through October at the mall’s House of Blues Foundation gallery. The House of Blues Foundation is treating the young artists to a folk art tour and musical program on the history of jazz at the House of Blues in New Orleans on November 6, said Fanfare Assistant Director Keiron Couret. The International House of Blues Foundation gallery is located on Hammond Square Mall’s second level in the Dillard’s wing. Groups may also view the artwork by appointment by calling the mall at 985-542-4099. 2002 International House of Blues Foundation art competition winners are: First place: Atifa Naeem, fifth grade, Southeastern Lab School; Josh Reed, sixth grade, Southeastern Lab School; David Neal, seventh grade, Sumner Junior High School; Mindy Kleish, eighth grade, Sumner Junior High School; Angelina Labruzzo, ninth grade, Independence High School; Jessica Marie Tassin, 10th grade, Amite High School; Kim Thicke, 11th grade, Ponchatoula High School; Marco Brim, 12th grade, Kentwood High School. Second place: Sydney Medlin, fifth grade, Southeastern Lab School; Courtney Allen, eighth grade, Sumner Junior High School; Leo Paul Langlois, ninth grade, Amite High School; Laddie Osby, 10th grade, Kentwood High School; Keith Butler Jr., 11th grade, Amite High School; Ronald Putmon, 12th grade, Kentwood High School.
