HONORS PROGRAM LECTURE, AWARDS RESCHEDULED FOR OCT. 6
     HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana University Honors Program awards ceremony and lecture celebrating the program's 25th anniversary has been rescheduled for Oct. 6.
     The program, postponed earlier because of Hurricane Ivan, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Kiva of the Cate Teacher Education Center. Eleven students will receive the Honors Program’s Sophomore Honors Distinction Award. 
     At 7:30 p.m. Eva Brann, professor of classics at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Md., will present “Delight in Reading Homer.” 
     Honors Program Director James Walter said the Sophomore Honors Distinction Award is being presented for the first time. Recipients are Sandra Austin, a psychology major from Amite; special education major Anecia Flynn, elementary education major Stephanie Mayeaux, and finance major Scott Ploof of Ponchatoula; psychology major Elizabeth Brown and art major Christopher Baudot of Mandeville; biological sciences major Laura Bairisco of Covington; elementary education major Janie Valle of Slidell; English major Lauren Carson of  Folsom; psychology major Lauren Villalobos of Chalmette; and political science major Leah Voisin of Theriot.
     Brann’s lecture is the first of three fall semester lectures funded by a Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities grant. Titled “Reading the Great Epics for a Higher Education,” the lecture series will also include “Virgil’s Roman Revision of the Heroic Life” by Bainard Cowan of Louisiana State University, Nov. 3; and “Sir Gawain, Illustrator of the Liberal Arts” by Jack White of Mississippi State University, Nov. 30.
