COMBINED CHOIRS PLAN HOLIDAY CONCERT
      HAMMOND -- A choir of  Southeastern Louisiana University and community singers will perform selections from Handel’s “Messiah” and other holiday music at Hammond’s Holy Ghost Church on December 8.
      The 2 p.m. concert is free at the church, located at 601 N. Oak Street. Alissa Mercurio Rowe, Southeastern’s interim director of choral activities, will conduct the program which features the combined voices of Southeastern’s Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, University Choir and Northshore Chorale.
      The Concert Choir is Southeastern’s premier vocal ensemble, while the Women’s Chorale, University Chorus and Northshore Chorale are non-auditioned ensembles open to all university students and members of the community. The choral ensembles join voices each holiday season for a special concert at a Hammond area churches.
      The choirs will be accompanied by Cheryl Brothers, piano, and Dal Talbot, organ.
      Rowe said that in addition to selections from Handel’s “Messiah,” including the “Hallelujah” chorus, the choirs will perform Benjamin Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols” and “Gloria Patri” by Giovanni P. Palestrina. The program also includes “The Holly and the Ivy,” “Mary Had a Baby,” “The Lord bless you and keep you” and “Deck the Hall.”
