HOMECOMING'S COMING AT SLU (SATURDAY, NOV. 21)!
     HAMMOND -- The festivities of Southeastern Louisiana University's annual
Homecoming Week leading up to Homecoming Day, Nov. 21 get underway Monday, Nov. 16
with "tip off" activities in the Student Union Mall. On tap for the first day are a pep rally and
fashion show. 
     The winners of the Homecoming coloring and kite-making contests for area children will
be announced at 6 p.m., Nov. 16 at Hammond Square Mall. All entries will be on display at the
mall and the winners will ride in the Homecoming parade on Nov. 21.
     On Tuesday, Nov. 17, Southeastern students will play goofy games on D Vickers Field
from 3-5 p.m. and on Wednesday, Nov. 18, they will enjoy the annual Gumbo Ya Ya festival
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Union Park.
     On Thursday, Nov. 19, Southeastern will celebrate  Pride Day, featuring the Tons of Fun
Food Drive for the Tangi Food Pantry from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the mall. The traditional bonfire
will light up the sky with spirit at the University Center at 6 p.m. Students will enjoy at
Homecoming dance beginning at 9 p.m. at Twelve Oaks.
     The highlight of Friday, Nov. 20, is the Alumni Awards Evening, scheduled for 7 p.m. at
the University Center. The evening will honor 1998 Alumnus of the Year, 24th Judicial District
Judge Sheldon Fernandez (Class of '60). (Tickets, $15 each or $120 for a table of eight) are on
sale at the Alumni Center, 549-2150.
     Homecoming Day, Saturday, Nov. 21, begins with the Options Holiday Prance Fun Run
at 7:30 p.m. at the University Center. An open house is scheduled at the Alumni Center from 9-

11 a.m. and the Homecoming Parade rolls through downtown Hammond beginning at 11 a.m. A 
free barbecue and reunions will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alumni Center and
the alumni basketball games beginning at noon at the University Center. The Lions will take on
Louisiana College in the Homecoming game at 2:05 p.m. and the 1998 Homecoming queen will
be crowned at halftime.
     Southeastern supporters of all ages can participate in more contests on Homecoming Day.
At the Homecoming parade, beginning at 11 a.m., Nov. 21, be on the lookout for special giant
doubloons that will be tossed along the route. If you catch one, bring it to the Homecoming game
(2:05 p.m. at the University Center). Your doubloon will be "put into the hat" for a drawing to
determine the winners of a pair of round trip tickets to anywhere in the continental United States,
compliments of Rownd Travel. Also, your game seat number could win you $200 in American
Express gift certificates and an additional $200 for the Southeastern program or department of
your choice.
