SOUTHEASTERN STAGES GUITAR FESTIVAL APRIL 8-12
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's 2002 Guitar Festival, scheduled for
April 8-12, will offer a feast of guitar music -- from classics, to Flamenco, to new compositions.
'The theme of this year's festival is 'Something Old, Something New,'" said its director,
guitarist and composer Patrick Kerber, a member of the Southeastern music faculty. "We will
feature new music for the guitar as well as traditional works, including an exciting performance
of traditional flamenco song and dance by Alianza Flamenca."
"I am also very proud to present professionally, a former student of mine, Southeastern
alumnus Magnus Jerkebo, as one of the festival performers," Kerber said.
The festival's five concerts are free to the public, Kerber said. The festival also includes a
roundtable by guitar composers and a masterclass by virtuoso Michael Patilla.
April 8, 7:30 p.m., Pottle Music Building Auditorium: Kerber's concert of music for
guitar will spotlight the talents of faculty colleagues Emily Truckenbrod, soprano, and Farrell
Vernon, saxophone, and feature a new work by composer-in-residence Stephen Suber. The
Concert Choir, the university's premier vocal ensemble, will perform Tedesco's "Romancero
Gitano" for choir and guitar under the direction of Dirk Garner.
. April 9, 2 p.m., Sims Memorial Library: Jerkebo and guitarist Asa Sahlee will perform
music by French and Swedish composers.
April 9, 7:30 p.m., Pottle Music Building Auditorium: Southeastern's popular
