GERMAN CLASSICAL GUITARIST IS GUEST AT SLU NOV. 6
     HAMMOND -- German classical guitar virtuoso Gerd Wuestemann, professor of guitar
at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, will present a guest concert Nov. 6 at Southeastern
Louisiana University.
     The 7:30 p.m. concert in the Pottle Music Building Auditorium is free to the public, said
Southeastern classical guitar instructor Patrick Kerber.
     Wuestemann, who has been called Germany's greatest guitarist, will also present a
masterclass in Room 124 of the Ralph R. Pottle Music Building from 1-2 p.m. on Nov. 6.
     The guitarist has won many of the world's most significant competitions, among them the
ARD Competition in Munich, the Tokyo International, Spain's Tarrega and Segovia competitions
and the Great Lakes Competition. He annually performs an average of 50 recitals throughout the
world.
     Recent highlights of his career include recitals at Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall in London
and for the royal family of Spain. He has also performed solo with the St. Paul Chamber
Orchestra and the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig.
     Wuestemann studied at some of the Europe's most prestigious conservatories and also has
a master's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory where he studied on a two-year Fulbright
scholarship. He completed is doctoral degree at the University of Arizona in 1995.
