ACTIVITIES FOR ENTIRE FAMILY AT GALLERY STROLL OCT. 12
HAMMOND -- Art exhibits, arts and crafts for sale, children's activities and live music
are all a part of Fanfare's "Gallery Stroll" Sunday, October 12, 1:00 pm-5:00 pm in downtown
Hammond.
Gallery Stroll is part of the Art & All that Jazz Weekend, presented by the Hammond
Downtown Development District and Fanfare, Southeastern Louisiana University's October
celebration of the arts, humanities and sciences.
Visitors can stroll through the historic downtown district where stores, restaurants and
offices will display the talents of area artists. Thirty-six businesses and over forty-five artists are
participating in Gallery Stroll.
Artists displaying works include: Julia Sims, George Israel, Fanfare guest artists The
McLean Mix, Francois Alfred and St. Thomas Aquinas High School art students.
Other highlights of "Gallery Stroll" are the Children's tent, food booths and Artisans
Row. The Children's tent will feature hands-on art activities coordinated and provided by North
Oaks Health System, New Orleans Museum of Art's VAN-GO, Southeastern art classes,
Louisiana Arts and Science Center in Baton Rouge, Airport Garden Center in Hammond,
Albertsons and Carona's Bakery. Activities will include flower pot decorations and planting and
cookie decorating and more.
Live music will be provided during Gallery Stroll by the Leon Anderson Group, led by
percussionist Leon Anderson. Anderson is a native of Shreveport and teaches percussion and
drum studies at the University of New Orleans and at Southeastern. Performing with Anderson
will be Dwight Fitch on piano, Mitchell Player on bass and Sharon Martin on vocals. Anderson
performs and tours nationally and internationally. The band will perform at the bandstand on the
corner of Thomas and Railroad.

Gallery Stroll / add one
Artisan's Row, which will be located beside the Chamber of Commerce building, will
spotlight regional artists who will display and sell their works.
