CLARK HALL GALLERY HOSTS ALAN GERSON EXHIBIT
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Clark Hall Gallery will host a mid-
career retrospective exhibit of the works of painter and printmaker Alan Gerson, August 28-
September 27.
"Alan Gerson: Then and Now" covers Gerson's works from his undergraduate and
graduate days up to his recent exhibitions in New York and New Orleans. The exhibit will open
with a reception from 3-5 p.m., August 28, in the gallery.
According to Gallery Director Don Marshall, critics have said that Gerson, "creates a
world that on first viewing look beautiful and innocent when in reality danger is just around the
corner." His paintings have been described as "dreamlike" in that he creates a world that is
convincing and appears real, but is also highly personal and imagined.
The New Orleans artist teaches part time at Loyola University's Visual Arts Department.
His work has been seen in numerous one-person exhibitions as well as many group shows
throughout the United States and has been included in the publication "New American Painters."
Gerson has a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Boston College and a law degree from
Tulane University, but now works full time as an artist.
For additional information about the exhibit, call Marshall at 504-549-2193 or 5080.
