SLU SPONSORS SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FOR GIFTED-TALENTED
HAMMOND -- Gifted and talented children are invited to participate in Southeastern
Louisiana University's Summer Enrichment Program, July 10-21 at the SLU Laboratory School.
The program, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 11:50 p.m., Monday-Friday, will expose students
to a wide range of creative and critical thinking activities, said coordinator Debra Troxclair of
Southeastern's Teacher Education Department. The program is open to first through eighth
graders who have been identified as gifted-talented or have primarily A's on their report card for
the 1999-2000 school year.
Troxclair said the program will be taught by graduate students seeking certification in
gifted-talented instruction. No more than 10 children will be assigned to each teacher and
activities will take into consideration the special expertise of the teachers and the interests and
learning styles of the children.
"The children will participate in activities that make summer learning stimulating and
enjoyable," Troxclair said.
Program cost is $75 and June 16 is the application deadline. Applications are available at
the SLU Lab School on General Pershing Street, 504-549-2185. A brochure and application form
is also available online at www.selu.edu/Academics/Faculty/dtroxclair.
