THREE NEW SCHOLARSHIPS FOR FRESHMEN AT SOUTHEASTERN 
     HAMMOND, LA -- Southeastern Louisiana University's Office of Enrollment Services
has announced three new scholarships for incoming freshmen. The deadline to apply for the
awards is May 15. The awards were announced at a luncheon held for area high school
counselors on the Southeastern campus. 
     The scholarships are the $200 per semester Freshman Opportunity Award, which requires
a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) and a 19 on the American College Test (ACT). The $350 per
semester Freshman Achievement Award, requires at 3.5 GPA and 23 ACT. The $500 per
semester Freshman Award for Academic Excellence, requires a 3.5 GPA and 27 ACT. The
scholarships will be granted for two semesters as long as the student earns a minimum 3.0 GPA
and maintains full-time status. Students must be Louisiana residents and 1998 graduates from a
TOPS eligible high school or program.
     TOPS scholarship recipients may also receive the Southeastern scholarships, as can
students who do not qualify for TOPS.
