SOUTHEASTERN, REGENTS SPONSOR "FRESHMAN FAIR" FOR HIGH SCHOOL
STUDENTS, PARENTS
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University is joining with the Louisiana Board of
Regents to host "Freshman Fair 2002," a fun and informative event for high school freshmen and
their parents, on Saturday, April 27.
Freshman Fair 2002, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., is designed to inform ninth graders
and their parents about new admissions requirements for all public, four-year universities. The
new standards will go into affect in fall 2005 -- the year current high school freshmen apply for
college.
"Freshmen and their parents who want to attend a public, four-year institution in
Louisiana don't want to miss this event," said Connie Davis, Southeastern's associate director for
admissions.
"All high school freshmen need to be aware of the new requirements when they schedule
their classes for the tenth grade. Haven taken the right high school courses will be important not
just when they apply for college, but also if they want to qualify for financial aid such as the state
TOPS scholarship," Davis said.
The Regents' minimum requirements state that all students must successfully complete
the Regents (currently the TOPS) core high school curriculum and have one of the following: an
ACT composite of at least 20, a grade point average of 2.0 or a ranking in the upper 50 percent of
their high school graduating class.
Southeastern instituted similar admission standards in fall 2000.
Davis said Regents representatives, as well as staff from Southeastern and other state
colleges and universities, will be on hand with details and answers about the new admissions
requirements, TOPS and other financial aid opportunities, and programs available at individual

institutions.
"We also have scheduled lots of fun activities, so we encourage everyone to dress casual
and plan to enjoy the day," Davis said.
Check in is scheduled for 9-9:45 a.m. at the War Memorial Student Union. The program
will begin at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided.
Participants are asked to pre-register by April 25 by calling Southeastern's Admissions
and Financial Aid office at 985-549-5637 or mailing freshmanfair@selu.edu.
Southeastern's Freshman Fair is one of a series of similar information sessions on the
new admissions requirements that the Board of Regents will co-host at public colleges and
universities throughout April and May.
