SOUTHEASTERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE FESTIVAL WINNERS ANNOUNCED
     HAMMOND, LA -- West Jefferson High School in Marrero won Overall Best
Performance for large schools and St. Paul's in Covington won for Overall Best Performance for
small schools at Southeastern Louisiana University's 16th annual Foreign Languages Festival,
held in the University Center March 24. 
     Approximately 575 students from 21 area schools competed in French and Spanish
poetry, prose, extemporaneous speaking, music and drama categories. 
West Jefferson placed in thirteen categories
     In group events, West Jefferson was the first place winner in French plays or skits,
followed by Donaldsonville High School, second and St. Amant High School, third. Hammond
High School took first place in Spanish plays with St. Paul's School, second and Immaculata
(Marrero), third. 
     In French Music, Live Oak High School placed first, St. Thomas Aquinas (Hammond),
second and West Jefferson, third. In Spanish Music West Jefferson took first place, Rummel
High School (Metairie), second, Ponchatoula High School, third.
