MORE THAN 650 STUDENTS EXPECTED FOR ANNUAL LANGUAGE FESTIVAL
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University will welcome more than 650 high
school students from 30 area schools to campus March 28 for the 18th annual Foreign Language
Festival.
Students will test their skills in Spanish and French by competing as individuals in
poetry, prose and extemporaneous speaking categories and as groups in music and plays. The
competitions will take place in the Southeastern University Center and will conclude with an
awards ceremony at xx p.m. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded to individuals,
while "Best Overall School" awards will also be presented.
"We are very excited about our participation this year, which is one of the largest ever,"
said foreign languages professor Luz Escobar, one of the festival organizers.
Participating schools include: Archbishop Chapelle High School, St. Mary's Academy,
St. Joseph's Academy, Northlake Academy, Chalmette High School, Bowling Green High
School, Central High School, Grace King High School, St. Thomas Aquinas High School,
Walker High School, Ponchatoula High School, Springfield High School, Isidore Newman
School, Parkview Baptist High School, Donaldsonville High School.
Also, John Ehret High School, Albany High School, Alfred Bonnabel High School, Baton
Rouge Magnet High School, St. Paul's School, Mandeville High School, Pearl River High
School, St. Scholastica Academy, Live Oak High School, L.W. Higgins High School, Mount
Carmel Academy, Archbishop Rummel High School, Catholic High School, University Lab
School and West St. John High School.
