NORTHSHORE ARTISTS AND LOCAL WOMEN PRESENT DIVERSE  EXIBIT
     HAMMOND -- Sculptures, paintings, and photographs by north shore art educators and
abstract creations by area women will be featured during at Southeastern Louisiana University's
Clark Hall Aug. 28-Sept. 25.
     Clark Hall Gallery will feature "Louisiana Abstraction: Women in the Arts," works by
artists from New Orleans, Luling, Baton Rouge, Covington, Folsom and Ponchatoula.
      "Artists in the south are generally recognized for strong realist work. These women
demonstrate the tremendous diversity of creativity in our region," Clark Hall Gallery director Don
Marshall said.                           
     Exhibiters are Kim Howes Zabbia of Ponchatoula; Barbara Tardo of Folsom; Jamie Meeks
and Hasmig Vartanian of Covington; Theresa Herrara of Luling; Leslie Koptcho and Rosa
Sanchez of Baton Rouge and Raine Bedsole, Andree Carter, Nicole Charbonnet, Robin Cole, Ida
Kohlmeyer, Rush Mullen, Anastasia Pelias and Paulette Tokar Whiteman of New Orleans.
     Internationally recognized photographer Sandra Russell Clark of New Orleans will also
show a series of photos entitled "Venice, a Vanishing Light" in Clark Hall's Photo Space. 
     Clark Hall's Atrium gallery will feature an exhibit by members of the Northshore Art
Educators. "With this exibit, we hope to demonstrate the wealth of talent in our local school
systems and the contribution that these teachers make to improving the quality of life for their
students," said Marshall.
     Members exhibiting their works are Mellie Bodker, Kitty Faulkenberry and Nelle Landry
of Ponchatoula; Denise Holly, Eugenie Ogeron and Lucienne Simon of Hammond; Fernanda
Jarrell and Sam McCarty of Mandeville; Mary Elaine Bernard, Sarah Sparkman Boyd, R.A.
Callahan, Connie Davis, Peggy des Jardins, Paulo Dufour, Robyn Kennedy, Diane Harlan, Francie
Rich and Cindy Rowan of Covington; Christine Lucas Bandera, Joan Boudreaux, Pam Lambert,
Nolan Lefort, and Babette Wattingny of Slidell and Peg Cogswell and  Molinda Parker of Folsom.
     Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The opening reception is 4-6
p.m. Wednesday, August 28.
