SLU TO OFFER NEW EXECUTIVE MBA PROGRAM ON NORTH SHORE
HAMMOND -- Business professionals on the north shore can earn a quality, fast-tract
master's degree in Business Administration through a new Southeastern Louisiana University
program tailored specifically for them.
The Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) program, recently approved
by the University of Louisiana System Board of Trustees, will begin in January 1999, announced
Southeastern President Sally Clausen.
"The EMBA Program's location on the north shore recognizes the intent of Southeastern
and the College of Business to provide quality and responsive educational programs to our
market area," said Clausen. "The growth of the north shore reflects the growth of our university.
It is important that Southeastern and our College of Business help develop the economic and
human potential of the north shore to its fullest."
According to College of Business Dean Michael Budden, the EMBA program is open to
successful managers, supervisors, administrators, professionals or entrepreneurs with bachelor's
degrees from regionally accredited universities or colleges who meet Southeastern's MBA
admissions criteria.
Brad O'Hara, director of Southeastern's 30-year-old nationally accredited MBA program,
said working managers and professionals should find the program's format to be "intense and
exciting."
EMBA students will take 11 graduate courses over 17 months, attending class on
Saturdays only. Each semester will begin with a three-day "quick start" session to help
professionals tune up their classroom skills. Classes will be limited to 30 students and will be
taught by Southeastern faculty selected for their ability to teach mature, experienced adults.

SLU OFFERS NEW EMBA PROGRAM -- Add One
"There is a market out there that can't take the time to study in a traditional setting
because of work and home demands," said O'Hara. "The beauty of the EMBA program is that
participants will attend class only one day a week on an accelerated timetable without missing
work and they also will be interacting with their peers."
Although the site has not been finalized, O'Hara said classes will be held "in a convenient
location in western St. Tammany."
He said the program's courses, such as accounting, finance, statistics, management,
marketing and information systems, "are enhanced by the professional experience of the
participants and are specially designed for practicing managers and executives."
Southeastern has been developing the EMBA program for two years, said Randy Moffett,
provost and vice president for academic affairs.
"We surveyed Chambers of Commerce members and other residents in St. Tammany
Parish and found a need for a weekend program on the North shore," Moffett said. "We're
pleased that we're able to offer the program at a tuition cost of $18,000, making it the most
economical of the EMBA programs offered in our region."
O'Hara said having an MBA degree is a professional plus for business people. "It reflects
a sophisticated level of knowledge and skills on a wide range of contemporary management
topics," he said. "For the entrepreneur, the knowledge gained in earning an MBA can make the
difference between success and failure in an highly competitive environment."
"I expect the EMBA program to quickly gain a reputation as an exciting and realistic
program that is geared to the needs of demanding managers and professionals," said
Budden.
