EINSTEIN AT SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA UNIVERSITY'S FANFARE
HAMMOND -- From the shock of frizzy hair to sneakers without socks, film and
television actor Ed Metzger stars in his one-man show, Albert Einstein: The Practical
Bohemian , on October 6th, during Southeastern Louisiana University s Fanfare Arts Festival.
Fanfare is Southeastern s annual month long celebration of the Arts, Humanities and
Sciences. All through October there will be a variety of performances including ballets, plays,
concerts, and lectures. In Albert Einstein: The Practical Bohemian Metzger introduces
Einstein, the man, not the monument, in his brilliant portrayal of the original absent-minded
professor, confused and troubled father, outspoken protector against the outrage of war,
philosopher, womanizer and lover of... vanilla ice cream. Here is the man whose revolutionary
theories awed the world, but once had to ask directions to his own house.
The students at Princeton endearingly called him The Practical Bohemian because he
wore his hair long, since, he said, now I can eliminate the need for a barber. And he did not
wear socks because all they do is produce holes.
Ed Metzger brings out Einstein s sorrows as he was forced out of Germany by Hitler, his
humor as we follow his life through two marriages, and his horror in learning that his theories
were used for the development of the atomic bomb.
Metzger has toured the show throughout the United States including recent engagements
at The Kennedy Center, Washington D.C. Reviewers have given acclaim to the play and its star:
Genius...His characterizations strong. The New York Times.
