COLLEGE OF EDUCATION STUDENTS RECEIVE HONORS
HAMMOND --Kerrie Lynn Hill of Springfield, La has received the "Outstanding
Teacher Education Graduate" award, the highest honor in Southeastern Louisiana University's
College of Education.
Hill was one of many students recognized with departmental honors and scholarships at
the College's annual honors convocation April 24. She also received the Outstanding Department
of Teacher Education Graduate Award.
The College of Education also recognized new members of Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Delta
Pi, the Thirteen Club and Beta Lambda. Dean Stephen Ragan also recognized Frederick
Treuting, principal of New Sarpy Elementary School in Destrahan, as the College's 1996-97
Principal-in-Residence and Albany Upper Elementary School teacher Toni Lee Wing as Teacher-
in-Residence.
Nominees for the Outstanding Teacher Education Graduate were: James Bass of
Hammond, who received the Alan Keating Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Senior in
Music Education; Christina Lee Brown of Killian, who was named Outstanding Senior of Social
Studies Education; and Tracey Weeks Hatfield of Baton Rouge, who received the Academic
Excellence in English Award.
Students receiving departmental honors included:

Certification Student; Johnee L. Bogle-The Charles Campbell Award in Special Education.
TICKFAW: April Weatherford-Emma LaDew Award in Special Education.
PONCHATOULA: Denise Latour-College of Education Senior Scholarship.
BATON ROUGE: Melissa Eckler-Exemplary Elementary Education Alternate
Certification Student; Bill Louviere-Exemplary Secondary Education Alternate Certification
Student; Genia Britt-Emma LaDew Award in Special Education.
