SOUTHEASTERN ECONOMIC SYMPOSIUM TO EYE 'MILLENNIUM BUG'
     HAMMOND -- "Will the 'Millennium Bug' Bite?" is the question that will be examined
Aug. 26 at "Prospects for the Future," the Southeastern Louisiana University College of
Business's annual economic symposium.
     Co-sponsored by Southeastern's Business Research Center and Small Business
Development Center and the Hammond Chamber of Commerce, the symposium is scheduled for
9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the University Center.
     Sessions will examine how the Federal Reserve Bank, Federal Deposit Insurance
Corporation and local lending institutions are preparing their customers and operations for the
new millennium. Southeastern faculty members also will present the results of a regional Y2K
survey.
     The 10 a.m. session will feature Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Y2K expert
David Wright; Florida Parishes Bank's Fritz W. Anderson, president and chief executive officer,
and Ronnie C. Morales, internal auditor and compliance officer; Central Progressive Bank
President Ronnie Fugarino and First Guaranty Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Don
Ayers. 
     At 11 a.m., Amy S. Goodman, vice president and assistant branch manager of the Federal
Reserve Bank of Atlanta, will speak on "The Federal Reserve and Banks Prepare for Y2K."
     The symposium's noon luncheon in University Center Room125 will serve as the
Hammond Chamber's August meeting.
     At 1:30 p.m. College of Business Assistant Dean Bobbye J. Davis, General Business
professor Josie Walker and Business Research Center Interim Director Bill Pedersen will detail

 their survey on regional perceptions and preparations for the new millennium.
      Handouts will include general information on the Y2K problem and specifics on how
small businesses can prepare for the new millennium's challenges. 
     Registration is $15 for those attending the luncheon, free for those attending the sessions
only. Aug. 20 is the pre-registration deadline.
