DEDICATING DYSON HALL Members of the family of the late Dr. Luther H. Dyson,
Southeastern Louisiana University's president from 1953-1967, join President Sally Clausen in
dedicating the university's Administration Building as Luther H. Dyson Hall. The dedication
ceremony was held May 11 in adjacent Twelve Oaks, one of the 26 buildings built during
Dyson's administration. A member of the Southeastern faculty for 22 years, Dyson, an Amite
native, served as Southeastern's top administration for longer than any other president. In his
remarks at the dedication, retired history professor C. Howard Nichols said Dyson "was the very
embodiment of the gentleman scholar." Snipping a ribbon on a photograph of the newly-named
building are, from left, Dr. Dyson's wife, Ruth Kemp Dyson; his daughters Dr. Connie Dyson
Pirsig and Elizabeth Dyson Peyton and President Clausen.
