FOUR CHOSEN FOR SLU STUDENT AFFAIRS SERVICE AWARDS
     HAMMOND -- Four members of Southeastern Louisiana University's Division of
Student Affairs have been chosen by their peers to receive a the division's Vice President's
Award for Outstanding Service.
     The awards were presented by Vice President for Student Affairs Patsy Causey at the
division's annual awards convocation to Nick Bruno, director of Auxiliary Service; Deborrah
Hebert, assistant dean of Student Life; Sandy Goodwin, secretary in the Office of Leadership
Development/Student Activities, and Leslie "Reno" Hutchinson, a University Police officer.
     Bruno has been a member of the SLU staff since 1976, serving previously as Property
Control Officer and director of Physical Plant Services. He earned both his bachelor's degree in
accounting and Master of Business Administration degree at Southeastern and a doctoral degree
in higher education administration for the University of Mississippi. In nominating him, his
peers said Bruno is "astute in the world of finance, a good communicator, an honest person who
gives candid opinions when asked, a mentor, a role model, and a leader who continues to move
the University forward through new and innovative programs, ideas, and processes."
     Hebert, a graduate of Northwestern State University and the University of Georgia
(Athens), joined the Southeastern staff in 1991. Her co-workers called her a tremendous source
of information, a good idea person, one who takes time from her hectic schedule to advise,
encourage, and support others' efforts. "Dr. Hebert is never too busy to help a student, and she
has a true love and compassion for her profession and students," her peers said. Hebert is leaving
Southeastern in May to become Dean of Students at Angelo State University in San Angelo,
Texas.
     Goodwin has worked at Southeastern since 1976, serving in the Registrar's, Housing, and
Student Union director's offices prior to beginning her present position in 1995. Married to

DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS AWARDS -- Add One
Southeastern's head athletic trainer Bob "Doc" Goodwin, Goodwin is an active supporter of
athletics, the Alumni Association and university program's such as Chefs Evening. "She does an
outstanding job in vocalizing and symbolizing her pride in Southeastern," said her peers. "She is
loyal and committed, well respected by students, peers, and administrative staff."
     Hutchinson, a Southeastern graduate, joined the university's police department in 1995. 
He is assigned to general uniform vehicle patrol and is alert for traffic and criminal violations
while patrolling. Hutchinson is a certified CPR instructor and provides training for the
department twice a year. "He constantly volunteers for extra assignments and for anything that
will help improve the department," his colleagues said. "He puts extra effort towards student
satisfaction, is very active in academic activities, and is always willing to help others."
     A plaque listing the names of each year's winners will be placed in Southeastern's Student
Union.
