SLU FACULTY AND STUDENTS PRESENT DANCE CONCERT APRIL 18
     HAMMOND   Southeastern Louisiana University will present the first concert to feature
the choreography of six Southeastern faculty members Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Hammond.
     The free concert, entitled "Dance Stories," will feature dance sequences performed and
choreographed by Janet Wade, Cynthia Tricou, Greta T. Sharp, Martie Fellom, Artie Brown and
Dana Brewer-Plazinic.
     The seven pieces on the program will range from ballet and modern dance to liturgical
and dance-theatre. Subjects include personal relationships, diversity, discovery and collections of
growth and celebration set to the music of artists Mozart, Enya, Lynn DeShazo, William Ross,
Marco Marinageli, Jimmy Davis, C.C. Winan, Michael Galasso, Yann Tiersen, David Lanz and
Bach.
     Brewer-Plazinic is a Southeastern graduate with a bachelor's degree in Dance Performing
Arts. She has formed her own dance company, IZZY Moving Performing Art and Dance
company, which performs regularly at Southeastern and has appeared in New York. Brewer-
Plazinic was chosen as one of the top ten choreographers at the New Orleans Contemporary Arts
Center's "Dramarama 3," was nominated for a Big Easy Entertainment Award for Best
Choreography and received Southeastern's prestigious President's Award for Excellence in
Artistic Activity.
     Brown is a retired teacher who currently teaches at Fellom Ballet and Southeastern. She
also works with Sacred Movement throughout the year at various women's conferences in the
southeastern United States.
     Fellom has been the coordinator of Southeastern's dance program since 1985. She holds a
doctoral degree in Performance Studies from New York University and graduated from

 Southeastern in 1971. She has performed with Merce Cunningham, Charles Weidman, Erik
Hawkins, Bertram Ross, Ernestine Stodelle, Mark Morris, David Howard, Finis Jung, and Betty
Jones.
     Sharp, a Hammond native, holds a bachelor's in Dance Performing Arts from
Southeastern and a master's degree in dance from Mills College in Oakland, Calif. She is
currently teaching dance and yoga at Southeastern, Fellom Ballet and North Oaks Hospital. Last
year, she created Sharp Edges, a dance and performing arts ensemble, in order to provide
performing opportunities for beginning dancers.
     Tricou, who earned her doctoral degree in education from the University of Northern
Colorado, is a professor of children's literature and elementary school curriculum in
Southeastern's Department of Teaching and Learning. A professional educator for more than 32
years, she is the former director of the Southeastern Laboratory School and is presently the
director of Fellom Ballet School in Hammond.  
     Wade earned a master's degree from Texas Christian University in dance and bachelor's
and master's degrees from Southeastern. Currently she teaches ballet at Southeastern and the
Fellom Ballet School and is the artistic director of the Hammond Ballet Company.  While in Fort
Worth, Texas, she danced as a member of Ballet Concerto, taught ballet at TCU, and was a
docent for the Fort Worth Ballet. She has also been affiliated with LSU Ballet Ensemble in Baton
Rouge, SLU Dance Ensemble in Hammond, and the Crescent Ballet Company in New Orleans.
