HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University s department of Continuing
Education will host cheerleading and drill/dance team workshops for junior and senior high
school students interested in learning the most contemporary cheerleading routines and dance
moves in the nation. Instruction will be provided by several national and regional cheerleading
and dance organizations.
The National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) will come to Southeastern June 15-18.
The instruction will be on cheers, chants, spirit dances, beginner and advanced dance routines as
well as creativity workshops, partner stunts and a cheer aerobics class. Each participant will
attend a workshop class everyday and be evaluated at night. Ribbons and awards will be given
out.
The Southwestern Cheerleaders Association (SCA)will come to Southeastern June 22-25.
SCA will instruct participants on chants, cheers, dance routines, partner stunts, pyramids, jumps
and tumbling.
The Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA)will come to Southeastern June 9-12, July
17-20 and July 21-24. The UCA will instruct on cheers, chants, partner stunts, pom pon routines,

instruct those participating in marching, including entrance and exit basics. The NCA will also
select the next Superstar Girls from their participants. Each girl has an opportunity to win various
types of awards throughout the week. A private coach or buddy instructor will be assigned to
each squad for guidance.
The Universal Dance Association will begin its instructions on drill techniques, parade
routines, precision kick routines for drill teams and conditioning dance techniques at
Southeastern June 29-July 2 and July 14-17. Dance combination classes will also be taught to
those who participate. UDA recommends that each squad divide up into groups, which will give
them an advantage of taking home 15-40 new routines.
While at Southeastern, visiting squads will be housed in a residence hall within walking
distance of all major facilities. Participants should pack light clothing for warm weather, pillows,
linens, sheets, towels and personal items.
For more information on each of the camps, contact Veda Abene, executive assistant of
