SOUTHEASTERN OFFERS CREATIVE WORKSHOPS THIS SUMMER
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University s office of
continuing education will
provide three creative arts workshops for junior and senior high
school students interested in
ceramics, creative writing and computer art.
     All three workshops will run Monday-Thursday, June 1-11,
9:30-11:30 a.m. and will be
held on Southeastern s campus.
     Visual Arts instructor, David Gibson will teach the ceramics
workshop on how to throw
on the wheel and hand build sculptures and functional works. The
cost of the workshop is $65.
     English professor and award-winning poet, Jack Bedell will
teach a introductory creative
writing workshop. Bedell will lecture on creative writing
theories and techniques. The workshop
will also include criticism of manuscripts through group meetings
and individual conferences
with the professor. The cost of the workshop is $75.
     Visual Arts instructor, Brian Kelly will teach the computer
art workshop. Students will
learn basic computer art skills using photoshop and other
programs. The workshop will begin
with scanning and drawing images then advance to manipulation and
enhancement so students
can  create works of their own. The cost of the workshop is $75.
     Southeastern will also provide a summer art camp for younger
children.  Tales to Tell 
will be held Monday-Thursday, July 6-16, for children ages 5-12.
The cost of the summer camp
is $45. Participants will create Model Magic creatures, T-shirts,
collages, rubbings, illustrated
books and paper bag puppets. Older children will also have the
chance to explore linoleum dock
printing and photography. Children will participate in an Art
Open House, a display and
celebration of all student art work.
