SLU ANNOUNCES 2001 HOMECOMING COURT AND BEAU COURT
HAMMOND -- Fourteen Southeastern Louisiana University students have been chosen
as members of the 2001 Homecoming queen and beau courts. The seven women and seven men
will reign over Homecoming festivities, November 12-16.
Chosen as members of the queen's court were seniors Chinwe Anuku of Lagos, Nigeria;
Rashanda Rachelle Booker of Oxford, Miss., Milo Kristel Herson of Baton Rouge, Monique
Marie Larr‚ of Metairie, Kalen Miller of Maurepas, Arlendra Shantel Zenon of Varnado, and
junior Rozalyn N. Parker of Baton Rouge.
Members of the beau court, added by the Student Government Association to
Homecoming last year, are seniors Joe Kott of Covington, Marcus G. McMillian of Boutte, and
Jason Mapp of Gonzales; juniors Marques O. Armant of New Orleans and Edward Gibbons III
of Slidell and sophomores Shane Bauers of Bedico and Brent Joseph Montelius of Sorrento.
The 2001 Homecoming queen and beau, the top junior or senior vote-getters in the recent
campus election, will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming basketball game when the
Lions take on Louisiana College at 7 p.m. Friday, November 16, at the University Center.
The court will also participate in Homecoming festivities such as the Student
Government Association Homecoming dance, Gumbo Ya Ya, Tons of Fun Food Drive, and
bonfire. On Homecoming Day, Friday, Nov. 16, the court will ride in the 4 p.m. parade through
downtown Hammond and will attend the free pre-game jambalaya at the University Center.
Anuku, the daughter of Edward Arenor Anuku and Pauline Amaka Anuku, is a computer
science major and sweetheart of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She is secretary of the Pan-Hellenic
Council, a resident assistant, and is a member of Gamma Beta Phi national honor and service
society, Upsilon Pi Epsilon computer science honor society, the Student Government
Association, the Southeastern Thirteen Club, and the Student Programming and Resource

HOMECOMING COURTS Add One
Committee (SPARC). She was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American
Universities and Colleges," the National Dean's List and was selected as an All American
Scholar.
Booker, a liberal arts major, is sweetheart of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. The daughter
of Regamer and Micheal Thompson, she was named 2001 Southeastern Role Model of the Year
and recipient of the African American Academic Achievement Award. She is a member of
SPARC and the Lady Cubs dance team and is a resident hall director and resident assistant.
Booker volunteers at Belle Maison Nursing Home, Kiddie Kollege, the Boys and Girls Club and
Reynolds Institute.
Herson, the daughter of Dwight Herson, Sr. and Carolyn B. Herson, is a marketing major
and is sweetheart of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. She is a member of Gamma Beta Phi, the
American Marketing Association and SPARC and is a SGA Supreme Court justice. She also is a
resident assistant and received the 2000 Rising Star Award from the Louisiana Association of
Housing Officers. She is an Excel scholar, Empowered Leader and was a Leaders Entering
Another Dimension (LEAD) facilitator and 2000 Orientation Leader. She was named an All
American Scholar and to the National Dean's List and "Who's Who Among Students in Colleges
and Universities."
Larr‚ is the daughter of Frank and Bessie Larr‚ and is a marketing major. She is
sweetheart of Phi Mu fraternity. She is Phi Mu ritual chairperson and a member of the American
Marketing Association. She was twice chosen Miss Congeniality in the Miss Southeastern
pageant and is a National Dean's List student.
Miller, a social studies education major, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Balfantz
Jr. Sweetheart of the senior class, she is president of the Student Government Association and a
Dean's list student. She also was a martial arts instructor. She and her husband, Norman Miller
Jr. have a 12 year old daughter, Cyrena.
Zenon is the daughter of Johnny and Arlene Weary and is sweetheart of the Pan-Hellenic
Council. She is a family and consumer science major. She is president of Zeta Phi Beta sorority
and a member of SAFCS. She is married to Tommie Zenon. Zenon is vice president of the Sister-
in-Christ Auxiliary and an active member of Rock Zion Baptist Church where she is a Sunday
school and bible school teacher.
Parker, a biology major, is sweetheart of the Student Government Association. She is the
daughter of Donald and Avis Parker. A member of SGA, SPARC, and the Lady Cubs, Parker
was in the Army Reserves in 1999 and is a published artist and poet.

HOMECOMING COURTS Add Two
Kott, the son of Dr. Joseph and Erin Kott, is a general business/economics major and is
beau of the senior class. He is a member of the Student Government Association and Theta Chi
fraternity.
McMillian, a computer science major, is beau of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, which he
serves a treasurer. The son of William McMillian and Mynyon McCaskill, he is president of the
Pan-Hellenic Council and was named Mr. Pan-Hellenic in 2000 and Most Outstanding Pan-
Hellenic Delegate in 2001. He is a member of the Presidents' Council and SPARC and is a peer
mentor for the Office of Multi-Cultural/International Student Affairs.
Mapp, the son of Martin and Tara Mapp, is a biology major and beau of the Rugby Club.
He has been a Rugby Club member for four years and was the club's Most Valuable Player last
year.
Gibbons is a visual arts/graphic design major and is the son of Edward and Sylvia
Gibbons. He is beau of the Student Government Association. He is a member of Theta Chi
fraternity and is president of the Junior Interfraternity Council. He received the SGA's John
Russell Senator of the Year award, was named to "Who's Who Among Students in Colleges and
Universities" and is a Dean's List student. He also is a U.S. Marine stationed at Weapons
Company, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines in Baton Rouge.
Armant, the son of Marilyn C. Armant and Shannon K. Armant Sr. is a management
major and is beau of the Dream Team. He is a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Gamma
Beta Phi and the Dream Team and is a National Dean's List student. He was named 2001 Male
Role Model of the Year and received Southeastern's "Green S" extracurricular activities award.
Bauers, beau of Gamma Beta Phi, is majoring in nursing. He is the son of Michael Bauers
and Liz Roberts. An Honors Program student, he works with Paul Keddy, Southeastern's Edward
G. Schlieder Endowed Chair for Environmental Studies. Bauers is a former member of the
university's Concert Choir and performed in the Opera-Music Theatre Program's production of
"Die Fledermaus."
Montelius is a biology major and beau of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. He is the son of
Gilbert and Barbara Montellius. He is vice president and a founding member of Theta Chi
fraternity, an SGA senator and member of Gamma Beta Phi and Delta Omega Alpha honor
society.
