SOUTHEASTERN DEDICATES ANNUAL CONVOCATION TO MORRISON
HAMMOND -- President Sally Clausen will officially welcome Southeastern Louisiana
University faculty and staff back to campus for a new academic year at the university's Fall
Convocation, scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 18, in the Cate Teacher Education Center Kiva.
The Convocation program will be dedicated to the late James H. "Jimmy" Morrison, a
Hammond native who served as Louisiana's Sixth District Congressman from 1943-1967 and
was "a true friend of Southeastern and the entire Florida Parishes region," said Clausen.
Morrison died July 20 at the age of 91.
Also at the convocation, Clausen will present her "state of the university address,"
highlighting last year's successes and the upcoming year's plans and goals. The university also
will recognize the winners of the prestigious President's Awards for Excellence, new emeritus
faculty, and 25- and 30-year service award recipients.
Following Convocation, the Alumni Association and the Hammond Chamber of
Commerce will co-sponsor a picnic from noon-1 p.m. at the University Center.
The picnic, which will celebrate Southeastern's 75th anniversary, is free for Southeastern
employees and $5 for community members. For more information about the picnic, call 504-549-
2150.
