SLU SELECTED AS CONSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION TEST SITE
     HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University will be one of the area universities to
serve as an examination site for the recently-developed national constructor certification
program.
     The certification program was developed by the American Institute of Constructors.
Examinations for both entry level and experienced constructors are offered in the spring and fall
each year at 65 universities in the United States. The next examinations are scheduled for
November 14, 1998 and April 17, 1999.
     The examinations are one part of the certification process for practicing Constructors that
also includes verification of required industry experience and education. They will be
administered at Southeastern through the Department of Industrial Technology. 
       Constructor Certification is an important industry initiative to set high standards of
practice and to improve the image of the current and future constructor,  John Searles, technical
department coordinator said.  In addition, the feedback received from SLU graduates taking the
examinations will be used to review and improve as needed our own construction curriculum. 
     Constructor Certification was developed by major construction trade and professional
associations under the auspices of the American Institute Constructors.
