University President Randy Moffett said the program is currently being initiated with businesses in the Hammond area and other parts of the north shore. Inspired by a display of Southeastern memorabilia at the Hammond Applebee's restaurant, the project includes the development of other displays for area restaurants and motels. The displays vary and include collages, framed pennants, personalized photos, university logos and window decals. Collages were also designed for the St. Tammany Center in Abita Springs and visitor centers in Slidell, Kentwood and Pearl River. "By highlighting the university in as many locations as possible, we are beginning to develop a greater awareness that Southeastern is Louisiana's university of the north shore," Moffett said. "The university's growth in recent years mirrors the same growth the communities of this region are also experiencing." Mary Hollister, Southeastern special project coordinator, is handling the Community Pride project. "We hope that many more area businesses of all types will participate in Community Pride," she said, "and we are willing to work with them on their displays."
