SLU COACHING CLINIC SCHEDULED JUNE 16 -- CREDIT COURSE AVAILABLE
HAMMOND -- The second annual Southeastern Louisiana University Coaching Institute
for high school, junior high and youth coaches of basketball, football, baseball and softball is
scheduled Friday, June 16. Sponsored by the Kinesiology and Health Studies Department and
Continuing Education, the clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in D Vickers Hall.
In conjunction with the clinic, students can receive three hours of graduate or
undergraduate credit for a course on sports injury risk management taught by Ronnie Harper,
director of the Kinesiology and Health Studies Department's Athletic Training Education
program.
The credit course will be conducted from June 12-16 and July 8. Course registration is set
for 8 a.m., June 12, in the West Stadium Billups Room. Tuition exemption may be available for
Louisiana physical education teachers, who should contact the State Department of Education at
225-342-2678 for additional information.
Rick Ball, lawyer, writer, consultant and creator of the Coalition of Americans to Protect
Sports, will be a special guest lecturer for the credit course and for the coaching institute general
session.
The fee for the coaching clinic is $25 and includes the Coaching Legends luncheon,
which will honor Southeastern alumni coaching greats Ray "Coon" Porta, Allie Smith, Stanley
Galloway, Pat Kenelly, and Gerald Keller.
Clinic sessions will be presented by college and high school coaches including
Southeastern's Frank Schneider, Billy Kennedy, Pete Langlois and Howard Dobson; James
Green, University of Southern Mississippi; Bob Howell, Baker High School; Glen Moore, Pete
