SOUTHEASTERN PRESIDENT RECOGNIZED AS "WOMAN OF THE YEAR"
HAMMOND Southeastern Louisiana University President Sally Clausen was named one of
New Orleans CityBusiness' Women of the Year for 2001.
Clausen was one of 30 area business and professional women selected for the designation
from hundreds of nominations that had been submitted by businesses and organizations.
The award is sponsored annually by the publication in cooperation with Hibernia National
Bank.
Clausen, now in her sixth year as president of the university, was cited for her commitment to
educational reform. The publication acknowledged her offer the first of its kind in the state to
area school districts to "guarantee" that teaching graduates from Southeastern would be able to
teach to diverse student populations, be masters of their subject matter, and be able to infuse
technology into the curriculum or the university would retrain them for free. She was also
recognized for spearheading the university's five-year strategic plan, overseeing a significant
expansion of the physical plant, developing strong partnerships with school districts and
businesses, expanding the university's international relations, and improving the university's
fundraising capabilities.
