BOOTH  NAMED DEAN OF SOUTHEASTERN SCHOOL OF NURSING 
     HAMMOND -- Donnie Booth has been named dean of Southeastern Louisiana
University's School of Nursing, subject to confirmation by the board of supervisors of the
University of Louisiana System. 
     Booth, who has served as interim director since September, replaces former dean Ellienne
Tate who retired in September. Her appointment is expected to be confirmed in May,
Southeastern Provost Randy Moffett said.
     As dean, Booth will be responsible for both the Hammond and the Baton Rouge
campuses of Southeastern's School of Nursing and the Intercollegiate Consortium for a Master of
Science in Nursing, which includes Southeastern, McNeese State University, the University of
Southwestern Louisiana and Southern University-Baton Rouge. The consortium is the only
accredited master's degree consortium in the nation.   
     Booth also will oversee Southeastern's continuing education program in nursing. She was
instrumental in helping acquire and secure funding for satellite downlinking for the program. The
nursing continuing education program serves faculty, students and professional nurses in 13
parishes and includes courses for physicians, pharmacists and emergency medical technicians.  
     Booth, who previously served as the director of the Southeastern School of Nursing
Hammond campus, is a 1969 Southeastern graduate. She received a master of public health from
Tulane University and a doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi.
     Her numerous awards have included a citation for distinguished service from the
Louisiana Council of Administrators in Nursing Education in 1998 and Southeastern's
President's Award for Excellence in Faculty Service in 1997. Booth also received the Faculty
Award for Excellence in Service from the School of Nursing, the Nurse Educator Award from
the Louisiana State Nurses' Association and Nurse of the Year from the Tangipahoa District
Nurses Association. 
     She has been active in the nursing profession, serving as president of the Louisiana State

Nurses Association and as an American Nurses' Association delegate.
     Booth has served on numerous committees, councils and task forces including the Ryan
White Committee, Emergency Medical Services Task Force, School Based Health Center
Advisory Committee, Louisiana Nurse Political Action Committee, Community Advisory
Committee, Louisiana State University Medical Center, Lallie Kemp Hospital, the Louisiana
State Board of Nursing Advisory Council, 
     She is presently on the board of the Southeast Louisiana Area Health Education Center
and the Louisiana Nurse Foundation, and previously served on the board of the Tangipahoa
District Nurses Association.
     Since 1964 Southeastern's School of Nursing has provided nursing education
incorporating nursing's professional standards of care, promoting research based nursing, 
advocating an improved health care delivery system to meet the needs of a diverse community,
and promoting the advancement of the profession. Southeastern's nursing students passing rate
on state licensure examination has consistently held in the high 90 percent range.
