SLU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS HONORS TOP STUDENTS
HAMMOND -- Babette M. Schexnayder, a senior accounting major from Loranger,
received the College of Business Award, the Southeastern Louisiana University College of
Business's highest academic honor, at the college's annual honors convocation on May 8.
Schexnayder, who has a 3.744 grade point average, including a 3.8 gpa in her major field,
plans to become a Certified Public Accountant. At Southeastern, she has been a member of Beta
Camma Sigma, the Thirteen Club and Phi Kappa Phi and has been a student tutor in accounting.
She was also awarded the Distinguished Graduate in Accounting Award.
Schexnayder was one of many students who received department awards and recognition
for scholarships at the annual awards ceremony.
Getting special recognition -- and a standing ovation from students and his faculty peers -
- was John O. King, professor of marketing, who will retire in xxxxx. King has taught at
Southeastern for 26 years and has served as the head of three College of Business departments as
well as director of the Master of Business Administration program. President Sally Clausen call
King "one of the best friends Southeastern has," pointing out that he has served under five
College of Business deans and was intrumental in helping the college achieve prestigious
American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business accreditation.
Dean Michael Budden recognized the recipients of the Louisiana Honors, Presidential
Honors and Board of Trustees Academic Scholarships and the 142 students awarded $500
Charles Wesley Merrit Scholarships, Southeastern's largest scholarship endowment.
