SOUTHEASTERN COLLEGE OF BUSINESS HONORS TOP STUDENTS
HAMMOND -- Angela T. Smith, a senior finance major from Slidell, received the
Southeastern Louisiana University College of Business' highest academic honor, the Award for
Academic and Leadership Excellence, at the college's annual honors convocation held April 27.
Smith, who holds the Reeves Family Scholarship at Southeastern, also received the
Distinguished Graduate in Finance Award. Instrumental in helping to revive the Financial
Management Association at Southeastern, she is an active volunteer in several community
service activities, including the Special Olympics golf tournament in Picayune, Miss., Toys for
Tots, and the YWCA Battered Women's Shelter in Slidell.
Smith was one of several students who received department awards and scholarships at
the annual awards ceremony. Assistant Dean Bobbye Davis recognized recipients of the
Presidential Honors Scholarships, University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors Scholarships,
Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) scholarships, and the 89 students awarded
Charles Wesley Merritt Scholarships, the university's largest scholarship endowment.
Additional major awards were also presented.
PONTCHATOULA - Ashley Braun of Ponchatoula received the Distinguished Graduate
in Accounting Award. A December graduate with a 4.0 GPA in accounting courses, she was also
presented the Nancy Harke Award, which is sponsored by Beta Alpha Psi, the national
accounting honorary organization, to the president of the chapter selected as the most improved
in the nation. Under her leadership, the Southeastern chapter earned a Superior status.
HAMMOND - Roger W. Zettler Jr. of Hammond received the Distinguished Graduate in
General Business Award. Recognized for his overall 3.692 grade point average, Zettler also
received the JC Penney Scholarship and the Florida Parishes Bank Scholarship.
Other students from Hammond who were recognized include Tabitha Stanley, the Elaine

Baton Rouge Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants Scholarship; Krystal Helfrich,
the Northshore Chapter of the Society of Louisiana CPAs Scholarship; Michael Watkins, the
Frances A. Payne Scholarship; Kate Thomas, First Guaranty Bank Assistantship; and Camie
Lopez, the Phi Beta Lambda Leadership Award.
LORANGER - Babette Schexnayder received the Louisiana Independent Automobile
Dealers' Association Distinguished MBA Graduate Award. A graduate of Southeastern with a
bachelor's degree in accounting, she worked as a graduate assistant and completed the MBA
program in the top 10 percent of her class. Schexnayder completed all aspects of the CPA
examination in her first attempt.
KENTWOOD - Jennifer Castella and Lekiva Osby, Addie Lela Thompson Smith
Memorial scholarships.
COVINGTON - Julie Combel, the Dallas LaRoy and Helen D. Calmes Award.
FOLSOM - Daniel S. Terrell, Florida Parishes Bank Finance Scholarship.
MANDEVILLE - Kathleen Koenigseder, the Beta Gamma Sigma Scholarship; Sonya
Jarvis, the 2000 Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award and the Ray Brown
Scholarship.
LAPLACE - Roger Walker, SLU Students Scholarship; Kimberly Savoie, Baton Rouge
Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants Scholarship.
RESERVE - Kevin Babin, the KMPG Beta Alpha Psi Superior Chapter Scholarship.
LIVINGSTON - Sarah Alvear, the Julien A. and Doris Evelyn Waller Tillery
Scholarship.
SPRINGFIELD - K. Nadine Hutchinson, the PKP Outstanding Junior Award and the
Dallas LaRoy and Helen D. Calmes Scholarship; Erica Sibley, the Althouse Kwik Kopy
Scholarship.
DENHAM SPRINGS - Courtney Gautreaux received the Distinguished Graduate in
Marketing Award and the Dallas LaRoy and Helen D. Calmes Scholarship. She completed her
curriculum with a cumulative 3.846 grade point average.
Monica Plaisance, also of Denham Springs, received the Distinguished Graduate in
Management Award. A December graduate, Plaisance completed her curriculum with a 3.81
cumulative grade point average and 4.0 GPA in her major courses.
