SOUTHEASTERN PROFESSOR NAMED STATE'S OUTSTANDING MATHEMATICS
TEACHER
HAMMOND -- Southeastern Louisiana University mathematics professor Elizabeth
Gray has been selected Louisiana's Outstanding University Mathematics Teacher by the
Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics.
Gray's selection was announced by Allie Pearson, president of the Louisiana Association
of Teachers of Mathematics, at the association's annual conference, held November 1-3, in
Alexandria, La.
She was selected on the basis of professional experience, professional development
activities, professional memberships, an essay and professional references, Pearson said.
A member of the Southeastern mathematics faculty since 1983, Gray has been a leader in
mathematics education reform in Louisiana. She has been principal investigator on several grants
focusing on changing the teaching of mathematics from elementary through university level.
Gray has published extensively in state and national journals and is the author of a
recently published text, "Data and Chance," that is used in the elementary teacher preparation
programs both at Southeastern and at Louisiana State University.
