SLU INITIATES 35 INTO NEW BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES HONOR SOCIETY
HAMMOND -- Thirty-five Southeastern Louisiana University students have been
initiated into a new university chapter of the national honor society for biological science majors,
Beta Beta Beta.
The initiation and unveiling of the society's Southeastern charter was held Nov. 6. Nick
Norton, head of the biological sciences department, said Beta Beta Beta members must be
sophomores with at least a 3.3 grade point average and 12 hours of biological sciences course
work.
Biological sciences professor Larry Frederick is the new chapter's advisor.
Members of the honor society, Norton said, will have opportunities to be involved in
undergraduate research projects, take field trips to gain insight into how biologist function in the
real world and participate in campus service projects such as blood drives, campus recycling
projects and Turtle Cove wetlands reclamation efforts.
