SLU CONTINUING EDUCATION SPONSORS SUMMER RECREATION, ART CAMPS
     HAMMOND -- Young children can enjoy art and recreation camps this summer at
Southeastern Louisiana University .
     The annual camps are administered by Southeastern Continuing Education and conducted
by the visual arts, music and kinesiology and health studies departments.
     The SLU Summer Day Camp -- scheduled for 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, June 9-
27 and July 7-25 at the SLU Kinesiology and Health Studies Building -- provides a variety of
sports, fitness and recreational fun for boys and girls ages 5-10. Kinesiology and health studies
and elementary education graduate and undergraduate students serve as camp counselors.
     Activities include softball, flag football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis recreational
swimming, t-ball, badminton, track and field, walking and fitness, movement, rhythmic
gymnastics, dance, bowling, recreational games and arts and crafts. Instructors SLU students and
graduate students.
     Early registration is now underway. Children should register for the June session by June 2
and the July session by June 30. Cost is $190. An extended day care program is available from
7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. 
     The SLU Art Workshop is open to children ages 5-12. Cost is $45 per child. The
workshop will be conducted July 7-17 and participants may attend either a morning (9:30-11
a.m.) Or afternoon session (2-3:30 p.m.). 
     Children will create a variety of artworks using different materials based on this year's
theme, "Home, Family & Community." They will have the opportunity to work with clay tiles,
encaustic painting, t-shirts, scratch board, soft sculpture, collages, paper weaving, and chalk

SLU SUMMER CAMPS   Add One
paintings. Older children will explore photography and computer prints. Instructors are SLU art
students supervised by SLU Visual Arts professors Kim Finley-Stansbury and Ronald Kennedy.
The camp ends with an open house, where children will display and celebrate their work.
     Enrollment is limited to 75 students, first come-first served.
