SOUTHEASTERN HOSTS WEEKEND ALGEBRA CONFERENCE
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s
department of mathematics will host the 2004 Southern Regional Weekend
Algebra Conference, Nov. 5-7.
The free conference, described as “a
stimulating weekend of professional talks and interaction,” will begin
at 1 p.m. Friday in Fayard Hall, room 105, and end at midday on Sunday.
Participants may register on-site.
Southeastern mathematics professor
Kent Neuerburg said this is the first time Southeastern has hosted the
conference, which has been held annually at institutions such as Florida
Atlantic University, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Loyola University
in New Orleans and University of Southern Mississippi.
In addition to a program of professional
talks, the conference will include a series of parallel sessions for undergraduate
and graduate students. The student sessions will include talks and panel
discussions on careers in mathematics and applying for and succeeding in
graduate school.
