HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University’s department of mathematics will host the 2004 Southern Regional Weekend Algebra Conference, Nov. 5-7.
The free conference, described as “a stimulating weekend of professional talks and interaction,” will begin at 1 p.m. Friday in Fayard Hall, room 105, and end at midday on Sunday. Participants may register on-site.
Southeastern mathematics professor Kent Neuerburg said this is the first time Southeastern has hosted the conference, which has been held annually at institutions such as Florida Atlantic University, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Loyola University in New Orleans and University of Southern Mississippi.
In addition to a program of professional talks, the conference will include a series of parallel sessions for undergraduate and graduate students. The student sessions will include talks and panel discussions on careers in mathematics and applying for and succeeding in graduate school.
Those interested in participating can contact Neuerburg for more information at 985-549-2175.
