SOUTHEASTERN, LSU SORORITIES TO HOST SOCIAL FOR FRESHMEN JULY 18
HAMMOND -- Southeastern's five National
Panhellenic Conference sororities will host an informational social on
Sunday, July 18 for incoming freshmen attending Southeastern or Louisiana
State University who are interested in participating in sorority recruitment.
The event will be held from 6:30-8:30
p.m. in Greek Village, the sorority and fraternity housing community on
Southeastern's north campus. Participants will have the opportunity to
tour each chapter house and meet sorority representatives from both universities,
said Kay Harrison, director of Student Organizations/Greek Life at Southeastern.
"The event was designed to help get
students acquainted with sororities at Southeastern and LSU. It's a great
opportunity to get a head start on making new friends on campus," said
Lisa Surrency of Hammond, Southeastern's Sorority Council vice president.
"The sorority members really look forward to the event. It's fun and takes
place in a relaxed setting."
Surrency said that the event will follow
a luau theme and that the dress code is casual. Attendees will be
given information about sorority recruitment events at both Southeastern
and LSU and will also be able to register for recruitment. Parents are
also welcome to attend .
"This is the second year we have hosted
the event with LSU," said Jennifer Notariano of Ponchatoula, Southeastern's
Sorority Council president. "We've enjoyed working with the women from
LSU and it seems that lots of freshmen have friends attending LSU. It tends
to make the event less intimidating when you know you can bring a friend
along even if she's not attending the same college."
"Sorority life is a great experience,
and we hope that any student who is interested will come to the social
to learn more about it," said Notariano.
